I am nothing like my character in Meri Durga: Ashna Kishore

Actor Ashna Kishore, who plays Shilpa Chaudhari in Ravindra Gautam and Pradeep Kumar’s Meri Durga, says that she doesn’t have much in common with her character. “I play a very different role in the show and the only thing I have in common with my character is that we both like to get dolled up. I am playing the role of Shilpa, who is this bubbly girl. She is very pretty but is portrayed as a bimbo. In the show, I am against Durga. Shilpa is this Haryanvi Pathaka and I am not at all like her,” she says.

Talking about working in the show, Ashna adds that she shares a great rapport with the rest of the cast. “Making friends is not easy for me and being an actor, you get to meet new people every day. In Meri Durga, Aishwarya Sharma and Ramansh are my close friends. I am also close to Ananya, who played the young Durga, she is like a younger sister to me and we still meet,” she says.

Working with producers Ravindra Gautam and Pradeep Kumar is also delightful, says the actor. “It is lovely. They are always there when we need them. We are like a family on the set. It feels good to be working with them. I hope I get to do another show with them in the future,” she says.

Originally from Delhi, Ashna came to Mumbai in 2013, but had no solid plans of entering showbiz. “I am from Delhi, I came to Mumbai in 2013 and somehow landed in this industry. And since then, I am growing as an actor,” she says, adding, “I like to sing as well because my parents are from the same industry. I also paint a little bit. I also like dancing and cooking too.”

Ask her how it was to give her first shot in front of the camera, and she says, “I remember it clearly. In June 2013, I was trying to get cast for an episodic. It was exactly a day before my birthday and I was called for the audition. I was really nervous but once I came in front of the camera it was all good. The camera is like my friend, it has always been my guru. I have always felt very comfortable facing the camera.”

She has a few role models in the acting world who she looks up to. “Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are actors who really motivate me. The way they act, it actually feels like they are living the character. Even Ratna Pathak Shah and Supriya Pathak are wonderful actresses,” she says.

Talking about future plans, the actor says, “I want to do more promising roles. I want to do something different and strong.”
